The Big Lots Buzz Club Rewards Program is being relaunched on October 1, 2013, eliminating the opportunity to earn those automatic 20% Off rewards.
Current program participants have until the last day of September to earn a reward under the existing rules. Even though Big Lots cannot currently accept manufacturers’ coupons, we enjoy shopping there. We have loved the 20% Off certificates that accumulate automatically for 10 qualifying purchases of $20 or more. Our casual dining table came from Big Lots using the bonus 20%!
The post on Big Lots’ website is, shall we say, noncommittal about the rewards that might be offered within the new program. There is a hint of the accumulation of points towards rewards, based upon the amount that you spend rather than the current number of purchases. This could result in a program similar to Kroger Fuel Points or even the typical airline frequent flyer program, with a much greater variety of offers. We’ll post more details as soon as available.
It does appear clear that the new program will count all purchases. Under the existing rules, you can only earn 1 credit per day towards the 10 that are necessary for a reward.
The good news is that we do know that the Big Lots Friends & Family 20% off sales are continuing. We took advantage of this summer’s Friends & Family 20% off sale weekend to purchase hundreds of boxes of Betty Crocker Mac ‘n Cheese for about $.10 each for the North Gwinnett Co-Op. Big Lots management has told us the next Friends & Family 20% off weekend will be in mid-October.
In the meantime, current Buzz Club participants who are close to your 10th qualifying purchase should consider doing some early Christmas shopping, spacing smaller purchases and then using the 20% Off certificate for big items.
