2018 is starting off with a bang for coupon errors. The 1/7/18 SmartSource contains some of the worst errors we have ever seen, including an unbelievable Rubbermaid coupon error. The Rubbermaid Brilliance coupon says it is valid for $3 off a $10 purchase of Rubbermaid Brilliance. However, when you scan the barcode with QSeer, you will see that the coupon is incorrectly coded as $3 off a $10 transaction without requiring the purchase of any Rubbermaid.
This is such an unusual error that the results of this coupon at checkout depends on how the store’s computers are programmed. For example, at Walmart self-checkout, this coupon will not scan even if a consumer purchases $10 of Rubbermaid Brilliance products. Meanwhile, at Kroger, this coupon will scan as it is coded, so consumers can get $3 off any $10 purchase – without having to buy any Rubbermaid products at all.
We are reaching out to Rubbermaid Newell to encourage them to use CHEQR which is a coupon barcode verification app. If Rubbermaid had only spent $249 for CHEQR, scanned the coupon barcode prior to printing and then made corrections, they could have saved themselves from a coupon disaster. This is one of the reports the Rubbermaid brand group would have seen had they scanned the barcode with CHEQR.
But with coupon barcode problems like these, Rubbermaid Newell really needs to use a new databar generating tool such as CHEQR Pro which contains a user friendly wizard to create accurate barcodes everytime.
